Quarter 3 Update 2025

Driving Growth Through Investment and Skills

This quarter has been all about investing in our people, embracing new technology, and strengthening our machinery. By combining advanced automation with the knowledge and skills of our workforce, we’re strengthening our complete fabrication solution and preparing for the future.

Investing in People and Skills

Our people remain at the heart of our success. We currently have seven apprentices at Levels 1 to 3 across the shop floor, with our latest apprentice joining just six weeks ago. Alongside apprenticeships, we continue to invest in professional qualifications across the business. Our Buyer is now progressing through a CIPS Level 5 course, building on earlier levels funded by Grenville, which will enhance procurement processes and strengthen supply chain management.

We’ve also focused on upskilling across the team:

  • Three welders completed ASME IX weld coding to support the growing demand in the petrochemical sector.
  • Both our Nesting Engineer and Design Engineer attended SolidWorks training, with further courses planned to expand their development.
  • Preparations are underway for TRUMPF training on new nesting software, ensuring we’re ready for the arrival of our new TRUMPF laser cutting machine in November.

Director Grant Barratt comments:

“Robots bring repeatability; trained people bring improvement. We are investing in both to drive future success.”

Embracing Technology

This quarter, we introduced our second MIG welding robot, following the first installation in July 2023. The latest robot will further enhance efficiency, quality, and repeatability, enabling us to meet the growing demand. Our operators are undertaking robotic welding training to maximise the benefits of this investment, ensuring we continue to deliver the highest standards.

The team has fully integrated the second Hurco VM20i CNC machining centre into production. With its advanced 20-bar through-spindle coolant system, it provides greater capacity and flexibility, allowing us to take on more complex and varied work without compromising existing commitments.

Sales Director Stuart Rawlinson explains:

“The Hurco investment has provided us with greater capacity and flexibility, allowing us to take on more complex and varied work without compromising our existing commitments. We’ve been able to maintain and support the growth of our current contracts while also positioning ourselves to respond more quickly to new opportunities. Since the investment, we’ve also attracted new customers who require the precision and capabilities the new machine offers.”

Supporting Key Industries

Our diverse client base continues to drive growth, with projects delivered this quarter across various sectors, including renewables, yellow goods, petrochemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, the building trade, and site maintenance. This range demonstrates the versatility of our fabrication services and the value of our investment in machinery and personnel, enabling us to meet the demands of multiple sectors.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the remainder of 2025, we remain focused on expanding our laser cutting capabilities with the arrival of our new TRUMPF laser in November. At the same time, we’ll continue to invest in our people and processes to remain competitive and agile.

Stuart Rawlinson adds:

“It’s been a strong Q3, and we’re optimistic about a positive Q4. However, we’re mindful that the upcoming November budget and the broader economic outlook may present challenges. These factors may impact our plans for future investment and employment, so we’re keeping a close eye on developments to remain agile and prepared.”

At Grenville Engineering, our commitment to investment, innovation, and people ensures that we can continue to deliver reliable solutions and comprehensive fabrication services to our customers.
