Meet Thomas, A New Addition to the Grenville Team as a Technical Engineer
We’re thrilled to introduce Thomas, who joined our team at Grenville as a Technical Engineer. Fresh off completing his Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Coventry University, Thomas brings our engineering team a fresh perspective and a passion for innovation.
A Solid Foundation in Engineering
Thomas’s journey into engineering began at Coventry, where he earned his Master’s in Manufacturing Engineering. Throughout his studies, Thomas was fortunate to collaborate with renowned companies in the manufacturing, logistics, and automotive industries, working on cutting-edge projects that sharpened his skills and deepened his understanding of engineering. His time on these projects solidified his passion for engineering and equipped him with a practical knowledge of applying theoretical concepts to real-world challenges.
The Spark for CAD/CAM Design
When asked what drew him to the CAD/CAM design field, Thomas’s enthusiasm is palpable. “CAD and CAM appealed to me because it’s an area where there’s always an opportunity to learn new techniques and apply them to the problems I face,” he explains. Thomas is captivated by the entire process—from the initial design phase to seeing a finished product materialise. “Knowing I’ve influenced something that goes from concept to reality is incredibly satisfying and fulfilling,” he adds. This drive to continuously learn and improve makes Thomas a valuable addition to the Grenville team.
Words of Wisdom for Aspiring Engineers
Thomas is quick to offer advice to those just starting in the CAD/CAM engineering field. “Patience is key,” he advises. “Every software I’ve used has taken time to get comfortable with and to use as effectively as possible. But the learning curve is part of the journey.” He also emphasises the wealth of resources available: “There are plenty of helpful guides out there, so don’t hesitate to fall back on them when you need help.”
A Day in the Life at Grenville
In his current role at Grenville, Thomas primarily focuses on the CAM side of production. He ensures that parts are produced in the most material-efficient way possible. This requires constant engagement with the task and the ability to deliver unique solutions for every challenge. “Pairing this with the naturally fast tempo of Grenville helps keep me engaged and eager to take on the next task,” Thomas shares.
The Future of CAD/CAM Technology
Looking ahead, Thomas is optimistic about the future of CAD/CAM technology. “Like all technology, CAD/CAM will become more powerful over the next decade, possibly integrating features like AI to help users deliver more effective results,” he predicts. Thomas envisions a future where CAD/CAM tools might identify design issues before products go into production, leading to more optimised designs and production methods. His forward-thinking approach perfectly fits the team as we continue to innovate and evolve at Grenville.
Off the Clock with Thomas
When he’s not at work, you can find Thomas indulging in his love for football—although he admits it can be a bit painful being a Newcastle fan. Outside of football, Thomas is an avid music lover, always looking for the next event to attend with friends. In his downtime, he enjoys immersing himself in movies and TV shows, making the most of his free time to relax and recharge.
We’re delighted to have Thomas as part of the Grenville family and look forward to seeing all his contributions as he embarks on this exciting journey with us.
