April Blog – Q1 2022 Review

April 30, 2022

With the first quarter of the year over, we reflect back on the market conditions of the steel fabrication industry.

The last few months have seen challenging conditions with the impact of the war in Ukraine and Russian sanctions. This resulted in steel stockholders raising steel prices to record levels and forced subcontractors to stockpile as prices changed overnight.

In addition to this the increase in energy prices has placed challenges for manufacturers to maintain optimal capacity. With the combination of these factors it is vital for manufacturers to ensure production processes are agile and lean.

What are we doing?

The design team at Grenville ensure that laser cutting templates are setup with minimal wastage. With the Fiber laser technology precision and speed is key to ensure that profiles are cut with the best quality, in turn saving costs in comparison to plasma/CO2 lasers.

Managing stock levels and purchasing at the right quantities to ensure production remains as close to a lean JIT level is another focus for Grenville. With steel prices increasing at unprecedented levels the buying team have worked hard with credible suppliers to maintain supply for our diverse range of customers.
